The reasons for card data misuse vary. You can't always prevent card misuse, but we'll show you ways to minimize the risk: You can protect yourself from misuse in the event of a physical card theft, for example by blocking your card immediately. With us you can manage this yourself at any time in your app under Profile -> Cards and by contacting us. By the way, this can also be done outside of our support opening hours with our chat bot; Please answer all his questions so that he understands your concerns correctly. You can also protect yourself against unsafe card data entry masks on the Internet and unsafe links to enter your card data sent through phishing SMS or emails.
It's always worth taking a close look: Does the URL look legitimate? Is the sender or the communication channel different from the usual sender in this matter? Is there even a plausible reason for me to enter my card details here? It is better to pause for a moment whenever irritation occurs. Customers are often tricked into providing all of their card details and, for example, confirming a supposed verification or test transaction via their app through fraudulent emails, SMS messages, supposed buyers on second-hand platforms or supposed dealers based abroad.
This usually links the card to a third-party Apple or Google Pay device, meaning that all future payments via this device are then authorized by the card. Since in this case 1. a link was used that could usually be seen as dubious upon closer inspection, 2. the transaction was confirmed with the app and 3. a confirmation email was sent for the new link, the transactions unfortunately cannot be viewed as unauthorized are therefore not subject to complaint. You can also be careful when making small purchases online for just a few cents or euros. Please always take a close look at the website, even for small amounts, and google user reviews, for example. Consent to taking out a subscription or membership is often hidden in the small print, which means larger amounts can be debited from your card at a later date without further authorization. Unfortunately, such cases do not qualify for a complaint about your bank and VISA because “subscription traps” also have a contractual basis. Another case that you can protect yourself against is the use of PayPal "Friends and Family" for financial transactions to strangers, as according to PayPal, any payments made via this method are excluded from buyer protection and therefore cannot be complained about using the chargeback procedure. Last but not least, you can protect yourself by never making your card available to third parties; not even friends or family members. If we become aware that your card is being used by someone other than you, we will be obliged to close it and unfortunately this would also be a reason why any unauthorized transactions by you would not be claimable. If your card is nevertheless misused, we will examine your case as part of the chargeback procedure. Roughly speaking, this applies in cases in which you could not have protected yourself and not in those cases in which increased caution on your part could have prevented the incident. To do this, please contact us via chat, telephone or email. Here you can find the route to our support channels. Alternatively, use the support area of the app. If you are unsure, please feel free to contact us. The security of your card details is important to us!
